Some people think that you actually spend more money buying cloth than using disposables. I will prove to you that the idea of cloth diapering can be wrong!
Newborn stash:
I purchased 24 infant Chinese prefolds (8lbs-14lbs) for $30... This will give me 24 changes of diapers that is about 2 days worth.
I also got some PUL covers 10 for $45 One size covers from 8lbs to 35lbs... They are not name brand they are from WAHM.
I made 20 NB fitteds diapers using T-shirts, Jeans and blankets for a total of $10 in elastics and thread.
I also made 20 fleece covers.. I bought the fleece from a local store when it was only on sale for 50% off. I spent about $30 for 20 fleece covers!!
I also got 4 dappi pull on covers for $3.99 (you can wipe and reuse if its not soiled)
14 receiving blankets (flannel) for flats for $4.00 at a garage sale
So I spent a total of $122.00!!!!!!
I can use the prefolds and flats until 6 months depending on the size of the baby! the covers until he is about 2 yrs old!! when I am done with my fitteds for the newborn stage I will just use flats, prefolds and covers!
I would have spent about $3,000 in disposables diapers for 2 years of my baby's life!!
I also CD my 2 yr old (only for night time) and I have 7 fleece covers with prefold inserts! I spent $30 in these 7 diapers... I have been using them for 5 months saving $300 in pull ups! my electricity bill is still the same as before because I can wash them with regular clothes! I can also hang them out on the sun for drying!!!!
My diaper pain did not cost me a dime!!! I got a bucket from my local chillis restaurant!! (my DH works there).
Dont get into the cute diapers with duckies and hearts on them because they can cost anywhere from $12-$20 each and you need more than 24 for each stage!!!
